| BRIEF HISTORY: Samoa Hawaii Flag Day
Samoa Hawaii Flag Day Celebration was started in 1965 by The Council of Samoan Chiefs and Orators (Atoa O Ali'i) as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is a week of festivities and a holiday for many Samoan people. This is to commemorate the United States of America flag raised in the Island of Tutuila, Territory of American Samoa on April 17, 1900.
In the State of Hawaii the Samoan Chiefs and Samoan Community established the Flag Day to help increase cultural awareness and to perpetuate the uniqueness of Samoan arts, crafts, and sports. This will also help to promote the spirit of unity among all the people.
The State of Hawai'i Government dedicated 2nd Saturday of the month of August every year for the Samoan Community Flag Day Celebration. It is primarily held at Keehi Lagoon Park, Honolulu, Island of Oahu. Usually starts on Sunday with Spiritual Song Fest in most cases a competition of choirs from different churches and denominations coming together to praise God with songs. Public are invited! See Flag Day Events and activities for each day and evening throughout the week.
